Protein Synthesis

1

The DNA opens up inside the nucleus so the the mRNA can copy the sequence of bases.

2

The mRNA has copied the sequence of bases from the DNA and moves over a ribosome in the cytoplasm through one of the nucleus pores.

3

The mRNA has moved over to the ribosome with the code.

4

Amino acids lying in the cytoplasm.

5

The ribosome starts to produce a new protein using the amino acids and the code from the sequence of bases on the mRNA. It is the sequence of bases which determines which order the ribosome has to place the amino acids.

Three bases code for one amino acid and is called a gene.
