Bacterial cells are very different from animal, plant and fungal cells. They don't have a nucleus, for example, so the chromosome lies unprotected in the cytoplasm.
The Bacterial Cell
Cell Membrane
The cell membrane decides what may enter and leave the cell. It is made of out phosphor lipids and protein.
Cell Wall
The cell wall is made of cellulose fibres. The cell wall allows the cell to fill with water without bursting and provides structure to the cell and to the plant.
Cytoplasm
The cytoplasm is the liquid part of the cell and it consists mainly of water. A lot of the cell's chemical reactions occur in the cytoplasm.
Ribosomes
The ribosomes are the site of protein production. They are found in the cytoplasm.
Chromosome
The chromosome is where the DNA and the code for producing protein are.
Plasmids
The plasmids are little circles of DNA lying in the cytoplasm.
